An incredible experience. The services was great, the chef is such a nice guy with a fun light energy that sets the tone for the meal. The ambiance was fantastic, great for valentines date night. I really appreciate the unique fish selection they offer (not your typical salmons etc). Each dish seems it was carefully thought through and provides a rich unique flavor combination. I have been to many high end omakase spots, but this holds a spot right near the top for me. Since this was our second time coming, and with the secret pass phrase and the business card, we were able to get a free glass of sake (a very nice nod to returning customers)

This was a super fun speakeasy/Omakase type of spot. If you're into sushi and you're into puzzles, this would be a fantastic spot to visit. The decor in the space feels a bit like a museum, so it's kind of fun to walk through and just witness everything . We got the classic set plus the pairing and I must say all of the pieces were really, really excellent. The quality of the fish the freshness of all the ingredients definitely came out. Favorite pieces were the nodoguro and the purple Hokkaido uni, and the oyster was a crowd favorite as well. Service was great, and the chef was helpful in explaining what we were eating. We left around 70-80% full, so I would prepare to not be stuffed, but that's pretty typical of omakase spots in the city. 4.5 stars properly

One of the best omakase experiences I've had in nyc. Every piece is meticulously prepared and super fresh. The vibe of the restaurant is also so calming and slow, it felt like I was in Japan. They also mail a beautiful postcard for you if you'd like at the end of the meal, which I thought was a nice touch. Service is also super attentive, definitely worth the price!!

We came for our anniversary dinner. Cute concept. Mailbox. Code. Speakeasy lower level. Post card. Price tag $$$$. From start to finish, the omakase was superb, fresh, delish and very full at the end. Mr. Moto entertained and shared his story. As diners, we appreciate that: Service is amazing, like ninja. Stealth mode. But never an empty cup. Or dirty plate. Splurge. Enjoy. Eat up.

A great experience for special occasions. I happened to snag a reservation for my birthday & I must say I was pleasantly surprised despite some neigh sayers. A super intimate speakeasy style omakase that was simply delicious . I opted for the 21 course bar experience & couldn't even finish it all. First, snagging a reservation on tock was no simple feat. After successfully securing my reservation you are emailed a small (fake) background on the establishment with a hidden message that you'll need for entry. This is located on saint marks across the street from the uber popular crif dogs/pdt. You walk up for a small phone style box and input your code (if you're worried about figuring out the code you can always email or call them a few days before). They'll answer promptly and you give your name for the reservation. Upon entering they'll give you some guidelines on etiquette and what to expect. After being lead to your seat they'll promptly take your coats (obviously depends on the season). Once you are sat someone will come with a drink menu. Shortly after you'll receive a glass of water of your choice (still, sparkling). Once everyone is seated the omakase experience begins. The manager/hostess will guide you through every piece with an explanation of what you're eating. You'll get an intimate look at the master chef work so diligently. After the 5 course appetizer, immediately begins your omakase being hand made and served to you one after another. For this being my first time I was blown away by the presentation, work & smooth transition from one piece to the next. The staff works in unison to make sure everything is perfect. Answering any questions you may have and making sure the entire restaurant hears what each piece consist of. The price is expensive but if you think about it not many places offer a 21 piece experience like Mr moto. Would I do this often? No, but this is perfect for a birthday, anniversary or if you want to celebrate something in an intimate setting. This is more like a fine dinning omakase experience .

My husband and I had the privilege to sample delicious sake from this quaint omakase restaurant in trendy downtown New York. The bar is located in the basement with memorabilia of old times like a vintage typewriter and jazzy music played by an electric piano that made the atmosphere very relaxing! Best of all the sake served to us by our server who explained the flavors of each sake. The experience was indeed memorable!

Interesting and fun concept! The password part did hype us up and got us look forward to dinner. I was slightly worried after reading the bad reviews, but we had a wonderful time and did not have any issues with the food or service. Maybe it was because we were seated at the counter, and there was only one chef who was the head chef since it was only half occupied? The whole meal had a good mix of traditional and innovative pieces. The innovative ones were multi-dimensional, with more ingredients than the transitional omakase but they all worked, yielding eye-popping effects. My favorites were the live scallop, snow crab, and sweet uni. The pacing was on the faster side, which we didn't mind as we found traditional omakase a tad too slow.

This is one of the omakase that's very hard to reserve. Limited 8 counter and 3 table seating speakeasy makes getting reservation really tough. Reservation open first day of the month for the whole month. Usually seats are gone within minus. $100pp deposit required upon booking. Standing out from other omakase is the experience you received. It's a speakeasy, you received a letter once reservation is confirmed; you will then decode the letter to find the code to get in the restaurant by calling the phone at the door. There's no name or any sign just a door and a phone in the box out front. Inside is small but cozy, with a lot of artifacts from Mr Motto's time. Letters and pictures all over the wall. It's more like a museum. Ground floor is dining and downstairs is a speakeasy bar you can enjoy drinks after the meal. The price is definitely high but the fish are super fresh. The most impressive is the scallops, they are still alive in the shelf when served, the chef cut them out, clean them and serve them right in front of us. All the fish are super fresh no fancy toppings just the pure fresh fish taste. Nothing stood out on each piece but overall enjoyable.
